Saw Mill Road School Health Office- Keeping Our Students and Community Healthy

 

When Should My Child Stay Home?

✅ Fever

  • Temperature is 100F or higher without medication
  • Return only after 24 hours fever-free without Tylenol/Advil/Motrin
  • If sent home with fever, must stay home the next day

✅ Flu & COVID

  • Same as fever guidelines
  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent)

✅ Strep Throat

  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent)
  • Return after 24 hours on antibiotics and fever-free

✅ Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent)
  • Stay home if eye is pink/red with discharge or crusting
  • Return after 24 hours of antibiotic drops

✅ Vomiting/Diarrhea

  • Stay home if symptoms occur the night before or morning of school
  • Must be symptom-free with no vomiting for 24 hours and eating normally

✅ Coughing

  • Stay home for persistent, productive cough or thick nasal drainage

✅ Head Lice

  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent)
  • Treat at home with medicated shampoo or seek professional assistance

✅ Impetigo

  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent). Your doctor will determine the type of treatment necessary and the length of absence from school.

✅ Respiratory Syncytial Virus – RSV

  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent). Students who are positive with RSV results must forward documentation from doctor’s office to nurse’s office. Students must remain home fever free at least 24 hours without the use of medication and their cough is no longer persistent or productive.

✅ Coxsackie Virus

  • Notify Health Office if diagnosed (class notice will be sent).
  • The student is not returning to school until recovery is confirmed by student’s doctor.
