Principal Read Aloud Assembly

March 2026

I Want To be Spaghetti
Today, the Saw Mill community gathered for the March Principal Read-Aloud Assemblies. Our student council asked if students could have input on the books we choose for the read aloud assemblies. We heard them and gave students four books to choose from; they overwhelmingly chose the adorable story I Want To be Spaghetti by Kiera Wright-Ruiz and illustrated by Claudia Lam.

This story is about a package of ramen who yearns to be something different, spaghetti in fact. By the end of the story the ramen discovers the joy of being happy with who you are. The author's note provides insight into why she wrote this tale-

"This story is based on my experience growing up thinking that I looked too different to be accepted. But it was never true. I hope wherever you are right now that you know this: You are perfect as you are- just like a warm bowl of ramen."
